The coil spring mattress is comprised of flexible metal coils which offer good support while still giving under the child’s weight to provide comfort. Cotton batting and foam pad the coils beneath the outer covering of the mattress. Memory foam mattresses conform to the shape of the sleeper while providing support for the body’s structures.

Single mattresses are available for water beds, although if your are leasing your home, waterbeds may not be permitted. Waterbeds may not be a good idea for active children who may puncture the mattress causing the bed to leak. Air mattresses are not usually practical for daily use, although there are air mattresses that are combined with foam for a more permanent sleep solution.

Your child will be excited about choosing his new bed, but will probably not care much about choosing a mattress. It is up to parents to decide which of the single mattresses are best for their child. If in doubt, you may want to ask your child’s doctor what type of mattress he recommends.
